In March, I’m throwing a dance party/ installation at aceartinc here in Winnipeg. This is a concept I’ve been toying with for years, but up until now, I’ve never pulled it off.
I’ve always been fascinated by pirate broadcast media and by flashmobs… and I’ve been wondering if there isn’t a way to sort of tie the aesthetics of the two together. You know a bunch of people dancing silently all wearing headphones, plus some broadcast radio gear….. I’ve always wanted to fill a room with people dancing to the same music with no sound system, so I got some people in Connecticut to build me a transmitter, and I booked a bunch of Djs and we’re gonna have ourselves an old fashioned silent dance party :).
As I VJ, I wanted to contribute a live video mix as well, but didn’t want to push it with projections given the broadcast theme. So I found a commercially available UHF transmitter and will be broadcasting the signal to vintage TVs throughout the space :)
I am super excited to pull this off . So if you’re willing, WPG tumblrs.. come out please :).
